Emirates has ordered 65 additional Boeing 777-9 widebodies.

The announcement, made Monday during the first day of the Dubai Air Show, means that that the Dubai-based carrier has 270 777-9s on order through 2038

The 777-9 is one of two 777x variants in development, along with the 777-8. The 777-9 will be wider, longer and have more range and efficiency than older generation 777 aircraft, and it will be the largest twin engine passenger jet in the skies.

The first 777x variant was originally slated to enter service in 2020. Last month, Boeing again pushed back the anticipated first delivery date from next year to 2027, saying that it still has a significant portion of its flight test certification program to complete.

"We've accumulated more than 4,000 flight hours, more than double a typical flight test program, and so far, there are no major technical issues on the airplane or on the engine," Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg said during the manufacturer's October earnings call, according to a transcript prepared by The Motley Fool

Emirates currently operates 119 777-300ERs and 10 777-220LRs.
