Celebrity River Cruises will double its fleet, ordering 10 more ships on top of the 10 already on the books. The nascent line intends to operate 20 river ships by 2031.
Celebrity will make its Europe river cruising debut in 2027 with two ships, the Celebrity Compass and Celebrity Seeker. Three more are coming in 2028, and Celebrity has named them: Celebrity Wanderer, Celebrity Roamer and Celebrity Boundless.
The line opened 2028 bookings on Thursday, saying it has added 24 ports that weren't on 2027 river itineraries. The 2028 season will include sailings on the lower and upper Danube and the Rhine, with special tulip season and Christmas market cruises.
Just like the first two ships, the newly announced ones will accommodate 172 passengers with a design inspired by Celebrity's Edge class of ocean ships.
Celebrity president Laura Hodges Bethge noted the high demand for its river cruises, saying the inaugural season sold out in under six minutes.
"To meet this extraordinary demand, we're thrilled to open 2028 sailings featuring 80% more European destinations, five ships, and more than 160 itineraries," she said.
